There are two known Holocaust-era Jewish mass grave sites in Rohatyn and a possible third site. While memorial stone markers exist at two sites, their placement is more symbolic than precise. The actual sites of mass execution are nearby and only generally known based on oral history (Jewish and non-Jewish memory), yizkor book stories, and post-war writings.

Rohatyn Jewish Heritage has committed to have non-invasive archaeological work conducted by professionals between May 25 – June 2, 2017. The project has the support of the City of Rohatyn. Professionally determining the boundaries of the mass graves will be the first step toward protecting these sites against future disturbance and encroachment.

The public is welcome to visit and observe.
