Jews in the Netherlands
The Dutch Jewish community, established in the sixteenth century after the country’s mediaeval Jewish population was effectively destroyed in massacres three hundred years earlier, grew to become one of the largest and most culturally integrated communities in Europe. 140,000-150,000 Jews lived here on the eve of the Holocaust; over three-quarters were murdered. Today the community has about 30,000 members.

Jewish Cultural Sites in the Netherlands
The Jewish Historical Museum (Joods Historisch Museum) in Amsterdam has created an enormous and exemplary database of information about Jewish heritage sites in the Netherlands: www.jhm.nl/english.aspx

At the time of writing, the location of the database from this page is not made very clear. Access the red bar on the upper right of the screen. Choose ‘Amsterdam’ or ‘Netherlands’ and click on the maps to link to detailed information on hundreds of Jewish heritage sites, arranged by location.
