MONACO
1948 marked the formal birth of the Monaco Jewish community: in that year, the Association Culturelle Israelite de Monaco was formed. Today, most of Monaco’s community of about 1,000 Jews are retirees, living in Monte Carlo. Many are originally from Great Britain or France; North African and Turkish Jews have also joined the small community. A former house has been converted into a synagogue, Hebrew school, kosher food shop and base for the Association Culturelle.
