We are happy to share this information about a Webinar on caring for historic cemeteries and gravestones, that will take place on June 7, from 20:00-21:30 European time (19:00-20:30 UK time – 2-3:30 p.m. U.S. Eastern Daylight Time).
Called “Who is Taking Care of Grandma’s Grave? The Basics of Cemetery Care“ and organized by the Connecting to Collections Care Online Community, the webinar will not deal specifically with Jewish cemeteries, but with historic graveyards and gravestones in general (from a U.S. perspective)
It will cover:
the basic steps of caring for historic cemeteries. Topics covered will include an introduction to documentation surveys and forms, an overview of general definitions required for documentation, photography tips, and an introduction to cemetery preservation planning and prioritization. There will also be basic tips for how to clean stone monuments.
The webinar will be presented by Jason Church, a Materials Conservator in the Materials Conservation Program at the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (National Park Service) in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Since 2005 he has conducted more than 100 lectures and hands-on training sessions for cemetery conservation.
According to the web site, “Anyone can sign up for any webinar. To protect community privacy, registration is required to participate in Discussions.”
