The annual conference of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies takes place August 7-12, in Seattle, Washington.
We are happy to post its call for papers — the deadline is December 15.
The International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies and the Jewish Genealogical Society of Washington State invite you to submit presentation proposals for the 36th IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy, to be held at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel from August 7 to 12, 2016.
Welcome to the Speaker Proposal site. This form is only for the initial submission of a new proposal. If you want to edit a proposal that was submitted earlier, please click on the Abstract Service Center which is where, until December 15, 2015, you can make changes to proposals that have already been submitted.
Please note that an invitation to submit a proposal does not constitute a guarantee of acceptance. The Program Committee will evaluate all proposals and notify all submitters by February 15, 2016.
Be sure to set your spam blocker to accept email messages from program@iajgs2016.org in order to receive your confirmation messages.
Presentations and panel discussions will be 75 minutes, which includes 15 minutes reserved for questions and answers. There is also an option, this year, for shorter presentations of 45 or 60 minutes, including 15 minutes for questions and answers. Please note this on your submission! Hands-on Computer Workshops will be 2 hours in length.
Speakers may submit any number of proposals. Individual speakers having at least one proposal accepted will receive complimentary conference registration. While we will certainly consider multi-presenter presentations and panel discussions, only the primary speaker for a multi-speaker presentation is eligible for complimentary conference registration. There is no conference registration waiver for participating as a panelist.
If there are two or more authors on a paper, the first author should submit his/her information first. When you get to the page for reviewing your submission, there will be an icon for “Add an Additional Presenter” that will allow you to add more authors to the proposal.
We will generally choose no more than three presentations from any one speaker. Please do not feel disappointed if we do not accept more.
Please read all the online instructions before starting the submission process. Email submittals will not be accepted. All proposals must be submitted using the Conference website.
Abstract submissions must contain all of the following:
- Full name, mailing address, email address, and telephone number of presenter(s)
- Brief biographical sketch (up to 100 words)
- Summary of recent presentation experience (up to 100 words)
- Title of presentation – limited to 15 words
- Presentation type (presentation, workshop, or panel)
- Brief description of the presentation (up to 150 words)
- Audience skill level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
- Topic category (choose from provided list)
Submitters of proposals will be notified by email no later than February 15, 2016 as to whether or not their proposal has been accepted.
Speakers are strongly encouraged to provide, for each presentation, handout material to be included in the syllabus distributed to all Conference registrants, especially to provide referenced website addresses. All such materials must be uploaded using the Conference website. Further details will be provided in letters of acceptance.
We look forward to receiving your proposals and thank you for your interest in our Conference.
The deadline for submission of proposals is December 15, 2015!!
Notices of Acceptance will be sent out by February 15, 2016.
