The historian Dariusz Stola has been named director of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. He will take up his position March 1, taking over from acting director Andrzej Cudak. Poland’s Culture Minister Bogdan Zdrojewski announced the appointment at a news conference in Warsaw on Friday.
Stola, 40, is a professor at the Institute for Political Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences, and at Collegium Civitas in Warsaw, and a fellow at the Center for Migration Research, Warsaw University. He has authored six and co-edited four books, and published more than a hundred scholarly articles on the political and social history of Poland in the 20th century, the Holocaust, international migrations and the communist regime. You can see some of his works here.
The museum opened its doors in April 2013, but its core exhibition is still being installed. The official opening is to take place sometime in the autumn, but no date has been set yet.

I am the daughter of Renata Skotnicka-Zajdman, who lived here in Canada, but was prominent in Poland. In 2011 my mother was awarded Poland’s Order of Merit in a ceremony in Warsaw. She worked behind the scenes and was involved with the origins of the Museum of the History of Jews in Poland, but did not live long enough to see the official opening. Yesterday I read, in translation, an article about my mother on the museum’s website. It is riddled with errors and inaccuracies. My mother would be deeply hurt and offended by such a mishmash. I would like to reach Dariusz Stola, and have this corrected. Museums are meant to protect Memory, not to distort it.
There are contact emails, phone numbers and address of the museum on its web site, including one for feedback. http://www.polin.pl/en/about-museum/contact
