The magnificent synagogue and Jewish museum at Casale Monferrato in northern Italy will be closed for the month of August due to restoration work.
The announcement on the synagogue/museum’s newly designed web site did not specify what work will be undertaken.
Built at the end of the 16th century, the synagogue is an opulent jewel hidden behind the plain facade of an ordinary-looking building. The ornate Baroque interior dates from the 18th century and centers on a lavishly decorated 18th century Ark.
