The historic synagogue in Exeter, England — built in 1763 and the third oldest in the UK — will complete a restoration process in time for its 250th anniversary celebrations in June.
The work will cost about £118,000 and will include repairing one of the walls which has suffered from damp, said a synagogue spokeswoman.
She said that the money would come from fundraising and from a bequest and the work was expected to be completed by the end of June.
Previous restoration work on the building, which is listed as a heritage site, has included renewal of the Georgian panelling behind the seats, complete reconstruction of the roof light, installation of central heating, and a major restoration of the synagogue’s historic ark.
