Historian and journalist Marian Turski, Chairman of the Council for the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, has been awarded the French National Order of the Legion of Honor.
Turski, 86, survived the Lodz Ghetto and Auschwitz and is an active member of the International Auschwitz Council.
French Ambassador to Poland Francois Barry Delongchamps presented the award to Turski, at a ceremony in Warsaw on Monday, citing Turski’s long career “fighting for memory” as part of his commitment to promoting Polish-Jewish understanding.
