According to the local newspaper Vremea Noua, the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania has reached a longterm agreement whereby the municipality of the northern Romania town of Vaslui will take over the disused synagogue for use as a cultural venue. Built in the 19th century, the synagogue is a small, one-story building with an arcaded porch, now surrounded by apartment blocks
Pictures of the synagogues and Vaslui’s Jewish cemetery, as well as pre-war pictures of the town and Jewish life, can be found on “Vaslui Jewish Traces” — an uploaded book prepared by high school students from Romania, Italy and Slovakia as part of the European Commission-sponsored “Youth in Action 1.2 project: A Jewish Inheritance against Intolerance” in 2008-2009.
